Monday-Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.

English as a Second Language:

Monday-Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.

High School Equivalency Exams 

You now have a choice between two different tests for high school equivalency, to get a high school diploma without graduating from a high school. Those exams are GED and HiSET. To get a high school equivalency diploma, you must show proficiency in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies by earning a passing score in each of these subject areas. The GED or HiSET test can be taken at Western Oklahoma State College testing center. If you need assistance with testing fees, please see the Director for information on agencies that may be able to assist with these fees. All three of these tests report their scores to Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and all diplomas are issued through www.diplomasender.com

 

GED testing information:

To take the GED test, you must schedule the test online at www.GED.com and pay for the test online using a credit or debit card. This test is available at Western Oklahoma State College.  The cost is $34 per exam ($136 for all four subject areas) and $14 for each retake. Test information and practice tests can be taken at www.GED.com.

Reasoning through Language Arts- Multiple choice, drop-down, and a variety of technology-enhanced items-one 45 min extended response essay -155 minutes total

Mathematical Reasoning- Multiple choice, drag and drop, hotspot, and fill in the blank questions-no extended response essay -120 minutes total-can use a calculator for this exam

Science- Multiple choice, drop-down, and a variety of technology-enhanced items-two 10 min short response – 95 minutes total-Can use a calculator for this exam

Social Studies-Multiple choice, drop-down, and a variety of technology-enhanced items-75 minutes total

Passing the GED exam: You must score a 145 out of 200 on each of the four test to pass the GED exam.

HISET testing information:

To take the HiSET test, you must schedule the test online at http://hiset.ets.org and pay for the test online using a credit or debit card.  This test is available at Western Oklahoma State College. The cost is $97.50 for all subsets of the exam and two retakes in each subset. This testing fee is $27.50 for the first scheduled test and $17.50 for each of the next four tests. Test information and practice tests can be taken at http://hiset.ets.org under test preparation and the “access the interactive practice tests”.

Language Arts-Reading-40 multiple choice questions- 65 minutes maximum

Language Arts-Writing-51 multiple choice questions-1 essay-120 minutes

Mathematical Reasoning- 50 multiple choice questions-90 minutes

Science-50 multiple choice questions- 80 minutes

Social Studies-50 multiple choice questions- 70 minutes

Passing the HiSet exam: You must score an 8 out of 20 on each of the five test with an overall score of 45 on all five test to pass the HiSet exam.

New Student Orientation

Intake and assessment is held every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. for new students. Students must be present 5:15 p.m. to participate that week’s orientation.

Tuition

There is no cost for Adult Basic Education classes.

Programs Offered

Adult Basic Education (ABE) – Do you need help with your basic academic skills to get into career tech, college, or a new job? This program enables adults to improve their basic reading, writing, language, and math skills.

High School Equivalency Preparation – Students over the age of 18 who have not finished high school can prepare to complete a High School Equivalency exam (GED, or HiSET) to receive a high school equivalency diploma. 16 and 17 year old students can be accepted into the program if they present a release form from the last high school they attended. This release form is available at https://www.okcareertech.org/about/state-agency/divisions/adult-basic-education/forms/release-form-for-16-and-17-year-olds

English Literacy Program – helps non-native speakers to communicate in English, to increase their understanding of American culture, and citizenship skills.
