Girl in Graphic Design

Southwest Technology Center has officially wrapped up its annual Sophomore Tours, giving every tenth grade student across the district, including Altus, Blair, Duke, Granite, Hollis, Mangum, Navajo, and Olustee Eldorado, the opportunity to explore programs, meet instructors, and experience Southwest Tech in action.

Over the past several weeks, students visited campus and rotated through programs, participating in hands on activities alongside instructors and current students. The Sophomore Tours are an important part of Southwest Tech recruitment efforts and help students make informed, life changing decisions about future career paths.

All high school juniors and seniors in the Southwest Tech district can attend a full time program completely free of charge. Many students who take advantage of this opportunity graduate high school with a workforce ready certification, industry recognized credentials, and in many cases, transferable college credit. These achievements give students a powerful head start as they enter the workforce or continue their education.

During the tours, students visited the following Southwest Tech programs:

Aviation
Automotive
Biomedical Science
Business and Computer Technology
Construction
Cosmetology
Health Science
Graphic Design
Metal Fabrication
Pre Engineering which will launch in August 2026
Teacher Prep

Instructors provided demonstrations, allowed students to try equipment and tools, and shared real world insights from their industry experience. These activities helped students understand the skills required in each career field and what daily learning looks like inside a Southwest Tech classroom or lab.

Southwest Tech appreciates the continued partnership of each district school and remains committed to expanding opportunities for students across Southwest Oklahoma.
