Southwest Technology Center is proud to recognize John Cofield as a true success story of the Aviation Maintenance programs and a powerful example of how opportunity, hard work, and determination can transform a career.

John’s journey into aviation began in 2018, when he was working at the Walmart Automotive Center. During that time, Kerry Evans, Director of Business and Industry Services at Southwest Tech, recognized John’s potential and encouraged him to enroll in the newly launched Aircraft Attendant program. John seized the opportunity and successfully completed the intensive six-week program, marking the first step in his aviation career.

Following completion of the program, John gained employment at Altus Air Force Base, where his passion for aviation continued to grow. Determined to further his education and advance within the field, John returned to Southwest Technology Center and enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance program as an evening student, balancing work and personal responsibilities while pursuing his certifications. In 2021, he completed all required coursework, earning certifications in General, Airframe, and Powerplant.

Throughout his time at Southwest Tech, John proved himself to be an exceptional student, earning high academic marks and being recognized as Student of the Year. His commitment, work ethic, and drive set him apart and laid the foundation for his continued success in the aviation industry.

Today, John remains closely connected to Southwest Tech, serving as an inspiration to future aviation mechanics. He recently returned to campus as the guest speaker for the Evening Aviation Maintenance program, where he shared his experiences, insights, and passion for aviation with current students, encouraging them to pursue their goals and put in the hard work required to become certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanics.

“John Cofield is exactly the kind of success story that makes our work meaningful,” said Kerry Evans, Director of Business and Industry Services at Southwest Technology Center. “He saw an opportunity, committed himself to the process, and never stopped pushing forward. John’s willingness to come back, share his experience, and encourage our students speaks volumes about his character and his passion for the aviation industry. We are proud of what he has accomplished and grateful that he continues to invest in the future of Southwest Tech.”

Southwest Technology Center is proud of John Cofield and thankful for alumni who continue to give back by inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals.
