Southwest Tech’s Cosmetology Program Expands to Serve Both High School and Adult Students
Southwest Technology Center’s Cosmetology program has undergone significant expansion to better serve students at multiple stages of their career journey. Beginning this year, Southwest Tech now offers dedicated Cosmetology pathways for both high school students and adult learners, increasing access to training and addressing workforce demand in the beauty and wellness industry.
A major component of this expansion is the creation of a new, state-of-the-art salon lab designed specifically for adult students. The modernized space mirrors a professional salon environment, providing hands-on training with industry-standard equipment and enhancing real-world readiness for graduates entering the workforce.
The program now features two distinct training tracks:
High School Cosmetology (1,000 hours): Designed for high school juniors and seniors, providing foundational cosmetology skills and preparation for entry into the profession or continued training.
Adult Cosmetology (1,250 hours): Updated to align with new state requirements, allowing adult students to complete licensure training more efficiently while maintaining comprehensive skill development.
Leading these pathways are two highly qualified instructors. Gina Seedig serves as the Adult Cosmetology Instructor, bringing extensive industry experience and a longstanding commitment to student success. Shelby Broaddus, a graduate of Southwest Tech’s Cosmetology and Master Instructor programs, now leads the High School Cosmetology pathway. Her return to Southwest Tech as an instructor reflects the program’s strong tradition of developing professionals who return to teach the next generation.
Students in both pathways receive comprehensive instruction in hair design, chemical services, skin care, nail care, salon safety and sanitation, client consultation, and professional salon operations. Graduates are prepared to pursue licensure through the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering and enter careers as cosmetologists, salon professionals, or beauty entrepreneurs.
Through expanded capacity, modern facilities, and dual student pathways, Southwest Tech’s Cosmetology program is preparing more students than ever for successful careers in the beauty industry while meeting the workforce needs of Southwest Oklahoma.
