Entrepreneurship Class

Students in Southwest Technology Center’s Entrepreneurship program don’t just learn about business — they operate one. Through hands-on experiences and real decision-making opportunities, students build the skills needed to start, manage, and grow successful ventures in today’s marketplace.

At the center of this experience is the student-run Corner Store, a specialty tea, coffee, and snack shop located on campus. The Corner Store serves Southwest Tech staff and students while giving Entrepreneurship students daily responsibility for product selection, pricing, merchandising, budgeting, and customer service. Managing an active retail environment allows students to apply classroom concepts in real time while gaining confidence in business operations and teamwork.

Beyond the Corner Store, students develop original business concepts, create detailed business plans, and present their ideas to local business professionals and community partners. These authentic learning experiences strengthen communication, financial literacy, and strategic thinking while connecting students to Southwest Oklahoma’s entrepreneurial community. Students also have the opportunity to earn the industry-recognized Certiport Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification, enhancing their career readiness.

The program is led by Instructor Teresa Tierney, whose extensive background in entrepreneurship and education brings real-world relevance to every aspect of the program. Her commitment to experiential learning and mentorship empowers students to see themselves as capable business leaders and innovators. Under her guidance, the Entrepreneurship program continues to expand opportunities for students to explore ownership, leadership, and enterprise.
