Southwest Technology Center is kicking off the new school year by introducing some of the newest faces joining the Southwest Tech family. First up is McKenzie Atteberry, our new Entrepreneurship instructor, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her bringing her experience, passion for education, and love of learning to our students!
A native of Hollis who now calls Altus home, Atteberry brings 13 years of experience in education to Southwest Tech. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. For Atteberry, teaching isn’t simply a career choice. It is something she has always felt called to do.
“I’ve always had a calling to teach,” Atteberry said.
That calling is taking on a new chapter at Southwest Tech, where she will have the opportunity to prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs and business owners. She said one of the things that attracted her to Southwest Tech was the opportunity to teach students who are excited to learn and have chosen to be here.
In the Entrepreneurship program, Atteberry hopes students leave with much more than the knowledge of how to start and operate a business. Her goal is to help them develop lifelong skills that will stay with them well beyond the classroom and help them become successful in whatever path they choose.
She is especially excited to share with students what it takes to turn an idea into a successful business while learning and growing alongside them.
“I am excited to learn and go on this adventure with you,” Atteberry said.
Outside the classroom, Atteberry enjoys reading, riding the side by side, and spending time with her family. She and her husband, Jeremy, have two children, Axel and Anslee. Jeremy is a fifth and sixth grade physical education teacher at Altus and coaches boys’ basketball and archery.
And here is something her new students might not guess: she is a licensed scuba diver!
A few more things to know about McKenzie? Coffee and Dr Pepper are her drinks of choice, Olive Garden is a favorite, and you might find her watching Big Brother when she has some downtime.
As she begins this new adventure, Atteberry carries with her the words of John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
We are incredibly fortunate to welcome an educator with McKenzie’s experience and passion to Southwest Tech. We can’t wait to see the impact she makes on our students and the future business owners who walk through her classroom.
