✨ From quiet to confident ✨

There’s always that one student who starts off soft-spoken, the one who observes, listens, and takes everything in. That was her. She’d quietly perfect her techniques, stay focused on her work, and let her talent speak for itself.

But somewhere along the way… something changed. She found her confidence. Her personality started to shine just as bright as her skills. She began laughing louder, taking chances, showing her creativity, and connecting with clients in a way that made everyone feel at ease.

Now she’s not just the “quiet one” anymore💅✨

Growth looks good on her. 💖

Jenna Buentello ✨ Watching confidence bloom is the best part of the journey ✨ She walked into cosmetology school unsure of her skills, second-guessing every snip and section. But now? She’s finding her rhythm, trusting her hands, and seeing her talent come to life. 💇‍♀️💅 Confidence doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built with every client, every challenge, and every “you got this!” moment. 🌸

Southwest Tech Students Awarded Fall 2025 Otha Grimes Scholarships:
Seven Southwest Technology Center students have been awarded the prestigious Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship for the Fall 2025 semester through the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education Foundation.

The Otha Grimes Scholarship provides financial assistance to adult students enrolled in career and technology education programs across Oklahoma. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, dedication to training, and commitment to furthering career goals.

This semester’s recipients from Southwest Tech represent several of the school’s aviation maintenance programs:

  • Shielah Dominguez – Airframe Mechanic

  • Skyler Martinez – Airframe Mechanic

  • Kristen York – Airframe Mechanic

  • Braden McElwee – General Aviation – Evening Program

  • Joshua Wainwright – General Aviation – Evening Program

  • Byron Ford – Powerplant

  • Tyler Massey-Powerplant

“These students exemplify hard work and perseverance,” said Dale Latham, Superintendent of Southwest Technology Center. “We are extremely proud of their commitment to advancing their technical skills and grateful to the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation for supporting adult learners across our state.”

The Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship is made possible through private donations to the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation and is named in honor of Otha Grimes, a longtime advocate for vocational education in Oklahoma whose legacy continues to impact students pursuing technical careers.

Southwest Technology Center remains dedicated to its mission of “Changing Lives One Career at a Time” and its vision to “Enhance the Quality of Life for Stakeholders.”
