Around 9am this morning, local law enforcement responded to a call at Southwest Tech regarding a student believed to be carrying a firearm in a classroom. The matter was resolved quickly and Altus Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol determined there was no safety threat. The item in question was not a firearm. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our number one priority. We appreciate those who acted swiftly in alerting law enforcement of a perceived threat and thank the law enforcement agencies for their quick response. Statement from Dale Latham, Southwest Tech Superintendent/CEO: "I appreciate the quick response from authorities and feel like the situation was handled to ensure the utmost safety of the students of Southwest Tech."
